Schylling Alphabet Block

Product Description

Amazon.com
These painted wooden alphabet blocks are a true classic, the kind of toy that stays around from one grateful generation to the next. Each 1.25-inch cube is stamped with letters, numbers, and objects. Kids will spend hours at a time with these blocks, building, creating, and "writing." Regular playtime with them can heighten letter, number, and object identification skills, and illustrate how placing one letter next to another and another can make a word. On two sides of each block the letters or numbers are slightly raised and painted in cheerful red, blue, green, or yellow, with a border for emphasis. In addition to all the letters of the alphabet and numbers 0 through 9, there are four symbol blocks with a question mark and the plus, minus, and equal signs. The depicted objects include stylized stars, eyeglasses, flowers, trains, and bees. A nifty (and convenient) wooden box with a sliding lid keeps the 48 blocks in one place. --Emilie Coulter

Better than I had when I was little :) September 18, 2008

Durability: Educational: Fun:
My 3 year old got these from her Nana for her birthday and she loves them. She builds with them and is learning to recognize her alphabet. My almost 5 year old steals them away every chance she gets, like when little sister is still down for a nap. The pictures on the blocks are way better than when I was a kid, more colorful, but mainly look like you remember. They are durable, I haven't noticed the edges being sharp or anything. The container is great because the kids make sure they fit the blocks back in there perfectly at clean-up time. A big plus because they keep up with all of the blocks that way, we haven't lost any and probably won't. They know exaclty what it supposed to look like when they are all picked up and put back in their container. Great purchase, I love toys without batteries that trigger the imagination. I learned to spell with ABC blocks when I was little, so I thought it would be a good thing to have since "Nana" seems to have lost my old set.

Please Read - These Blocks are Terrible November 6, 2010

Durability: Educational: Fun:
I'm not sure how these blocks got any positive reviews. Most important to me...all the blocks with the pic of an elephant are misspelled and read "elerhant". The pictures over all are not great. The grapes look like cherries...have you ever seen candy apple red grapes? The apples look like red pumpkins. Some of the blocks have pictures but the corresponding letter has been replaced by a symbol and other letters...confusing to a child trying to learn. Additionally, the quality of these blocks is not great as the paint was already scratched off on a few when they arrived and the wood is frayed on some. They have a strong odor (kind of like clay). Lastly, they are quite small as others warned although the size is clearly written in the description. I expect to see a set like this at a dollar store and would not recommend.

Pleasant looking at but Smaller than expected June 16, 2009

I orderd these blocks by just looking at the pictures. They looked beautiful when i got them and my 16 month son was happy to play with it, but i was hoping for a much larger version of this.Pros - Price, Nice looking, sturdy and edges are quite okay with no harmCons - Small, confusing for a little child as a single block has more than one letter on its side. I would hoped for just one letter with a picture of item starting with that letter. Insteady only half of them have pictures. Other half have various symbols for older age group.

Nice!
I got this for my two year old, who is 3 now and she still plays with it and loves it. They are wooden blocks and she likes to get creative with it. No harm in that!

Returning before letting our baby touch them.
We are returning these blocks without letting our baby use them. The painting is awful and inconsistent on the blocks. Elephant is misspelled. Read more

The blocks spell elephant wrong
We got these as a gift for our son, what a waste. Elephant is spelled incorrect and the pictures are horrible. Don't waste your money.

Great blocks, but sharp
My daughter loved playing with these blocks. They're good to stack, or put in and out of the box. My only issue is that they are very sharp if you happen to step on one and sliced... Read more

Blocks mispelled
My daughter received these blocks for her 1st birthday. The word "elephant" is spelled "elerhant". How are we to teach our children anything when their toys are misspelled?

Not what I thought
These are a LOT smaller than I thought they would be. They are only about 1 inch by 1 inch. My son likes them, but quickly gets bored. Read more

Well-received by my tot, but...
While I really enjoy the fact that these blocks are old-school, non-battery operated treasures for my 12-month old, my set came with typos! Read more
